Academic Editing

I have experience editing humanities monographs, articles, theses and dissertations, essays, funding applications, website copy for academic centres and museums, and much more. I understand the expectations of the academy well; I also understand the desire to craft a distinct voice as a scholar. Helping scholars reach this balance is incredibly rewarding.

Typically, two different types of editing are applicable for academic work: developmental/substantive edits for big-picture, structural concerns about argument development and flow; and copy edits, which ensure accuracy, correctness, consistency, competence, and adherence to house styles (which can include a university's) or style guides.

No matter the needs of your project, I would be delighted to hear from you.

"Holly is the best editor I have worked with. Academic English has specific requirements which differ greatly from the way I write in my native tongue. Working with Holly helped me understand how to build a simple and effective structure ... She also asks questions about my text, which allows me to clarify my ideas and my intentions. Working with Holly has reconciled me with academic writing and encouraged me to meet my writing goals. She has very strong editing skills and is enthusiastic and lovely to work with. I highly recommend working with Holly for anyone wishing to improve the clarity and flow of their academic English."
